Every household has seen it at least once: our tiny wizard cat, pushing a small rug into a bunched ridge, peeking over it with a sneaky grin. Casting time: five minutes before you walk down the hall.
Push the rug, make the ridge, wait in ambush, giggle silently. The mana bill arrives right on schedule: 1 small rainbow rug, 1 pink cat, 1 carefully engineered ridge of doom.
No apology is ever issued. Only a slow blink, which, in Spellbook Latin, means "you are welcome."
Counter-spell
1. Use night lights on stairs and hallways.
2. Feed and play before bedtime to reduce night-time ambushes.
3. Walk carefully with hot drinks and watch your step.
